College football victory chains, cat uses fork, Reznor
Thursday, October 25, 2007
This post is about three things: the absurd results of college football games this season (such as Appalachian State and North Dakota State beating Big Ten teams), a crazy cat lady and her silverware-wielding cat (plus cute kittens), and Trent Reznor’s latest collaboration with hip-hop artist Saul Williams.
Absurd college football victory chains
Below are some absurd victory chains (Team A > Team B) from this year’s college football results, taken from fanblogs.com and collegefootballresource.com.
The the Big 10 conference’s second loss to a DI-AA school this year has created this chain:
North Dakota State > Minnesota > Miami (Oh) > Syracuse > Louisville > Cincinnati > Rutgers > South Florida > Auburn > Florida > Kentucky > LSU
Here’s a related chain with more PAC-10 emphasis:
North Dakota State > Minnesota > Miami (Oh) > Syracuse > Louisville > Cincinnati > Oregon State > California > Oregon
And here is the mother of all absurd victory chains:
Elon > Wofford > Appalachian State > Michigan > Notre Dame > UCLA > Stanford > Southern Cal > Washington > Syracuse > Louisville > Cincinnati > Rutgers > South Florida > West Virginia > Mississippi State > Auburn > Vanderbilt > South Carolina > Kentucky > LSU
Cat displays proper table manners by using silverware
Check out this Sci-Fi Channel clip of this stunningly loony woman who has trained her cat to eat all kinds of human food with various eating utensils: a fork, chopsticks, a spork (all of which seem to be rubber-banded to the cat’s right paw). There’s even a creepy little song: “This is the way we wash our paws.” A terrifying pet owner.
You may also want to do a search for “hungry kitten” on YouTube and witness the breadth of cute and funny hungry kitten clips. A YouTube search for “cat eating” results in more amusement, such as: “cat eating sour apple lollypop” and “cat eating cucumber.”
Niggy Tardust and Trent Reznor
Here’s a message from Trent Reznor (via the spiral) about the new Saul Williams record: “The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust! has arrived! After my own recent dealings with record labels we decided to release it directly to you. Head over to http://www.niggytardust.com for all the details. Register now and you can download the record November 1st.”
And also: “There are obvious similarities in how Radiohead just released their new record and the way we’ve chosen to.” Seems to be the new trend in the music business.
Jeremy Blake’s death
I feel bad now that I didn’t realize American digital artist and painter Jeremy Blake died over the summer. He drowned himself in the Atlantic Ocean following the suicide of his girlfriend. Blake created the color-morphing abstract projections used in the 2002 Paul Thomas Anderson film Punch-Drunk Love and contributed artwork and video for Beck’s album Sea Change. Here’s a New York Times article from August: “Jeremy Blake, 35, Artist Who Used Lush-Toned Video, Dies.”
Lastly, will the Colorado Rockies even win a game in the 2007 World Series? They have been dominated by the Boston Red Sox so far.
