I saw David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in the theater on Sunday. The film was fantastic, but the crass-commercialism bludgeoning by Carmike made me not want to see another movie in their theaters anytime soon. The special effects for the aging of Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett, both forward and backward, were amazingly convincing. I have deposited my film rating at Filmometer.com.
Also, I definitely can’t condone shooting a guy for talking through The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, but it does remind me of why I don’t see very many movies in the theaters (because of obnoxious people, not people with guns): “Phila. man shot because family talked during movie.”
I found this rant about the forthcoming film Watchmen and associated legal action surrounding it amusing: “‘Watchmen’ Fan Cordially Invites Fox to Eat Several Dicks.” Here’s the latest news: “Judge Delays Ruling on Blocking Release of ‘Watchmen’ Film.”
Jaydiohead is here! Minty Fresh Beats has put together Jaydiohead, a mashup between Jay-Z and Radiohead. Pretty good.
Here are some funny live-action spoofs of video games by Mega64: Tetris (so awesome), Luigi’s Mansion (with a Dustbuster), Super Mario Bros. 3 (hopping in Kuribo’s Shoe), Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (dramatic unfalling) and Metal Gear Solid (in a grocery store). There are lots more where these came from. Warning: Being familiar with the game is usually a requirement for finding each of these funny.
These two games by Flashbang Studios cracked me up: Off-Road Velociraptor Safari (kill velociraptors with your off-road vehicle) and Minotaur China Shop (you’re a minotaur in a china shop(!) serving mythological customers).
These videos by Scott Gairdner are funny: “Happy Halloween From Michael McDonald” and “Happy Birthday from Michael McDonald.”
Have a Happy New Year!
