Marys Peak crime scene (and College World Series)

Today we went hiking at Marys Peak (yes, I’m refraining from using an apostrophe to show possession). Why isn’t it Mary’s Peak anymore? Why?

Anyway, we had a nice hike, literally walking through clouds near the summit at around 4000 feet in elevation. So I don’t bore you too much, here are just a few quick snaps. The sky grew sunnier as the day wore on.

Now, the story I really want to show & tell about is what we saw on the drive back down the mountain. Maybe I’ll just insert some photos below and let you see if you can figure out what the hell is going on.

Notice the white arrow in the road pointing to the rusted-out pickup truck. Notice the caution tape and McDonald’s cup. Notice the spent .45 auto shells on the ground. What does it all mean?

Now let’s observe the rusty, obliterated truck in more detail . . . from front, side, and back. There are a lot of bullet holes. A lot.

WTF? Did someone haul a nearly demolished piece-of-crap truck up the mountain so they could dump it and blast the hell out of it with an automatic weapon, away from civilization? I don’t really have a better explanation, but it was certainly a curious sight. Someone really had fun with that heap of metal.

Hmm, I don’t often do the photoblogging thing, but I guess I felt like it today. Perhaps you have made slight enjoyment from reading this textphoto post? Yes? Very nice.

And now a brief sports update: Today the Oregon State Beavers won their first game of the NCAA 2007 Men’s College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska. The score was 3-2 over the Cal State Fullerton Titans. Good luck to the OSU against the Arizona State Sun Devils on Monday. See the official College World Series bracket.
